NO WEAPONS – Making the case for action

REDUCTION OF WEAPONS

MAKING THE CASE FOR ACTION

Making the case for action to reduce weapons in healthcare setting is often difficult because there are often higher priorities within the healthcare system and most of the impacts of the infiltration of weapons are not immediate and difficult to quantify effectively.

MAKING THE CASE FOR ACTION

Indeed, the banning of weapons within healthcare facilities is often not required by law and when legislation does exist, they are often not enforced.  There is also a perception among many people that the problem is too complex to deal with. When organisations want to reduce weapons there is insufficient information, guidance and support available on what works to reduce the infiltration of guns.  While the projects that do exist are often not monitored and evaluated effectively, meaning that there is no evidence base for action.

KEY impacts are on healthcare quality and safety

However, by using the following TOOL many of the difficulties can be overcome.

1. The tool will provide you with tangible evidence that allows you to prioritise action

2. The tool will show you how to quantify the impact of weapons inside healthcare facilities

3. It is constantly updating and includes new case studies

4. The tool will show you practical examples of mechanisms that have been used to change peoples behaviours
